Completed "hardwood" project

This project has been completed for a while now, but having the discipline to post pictures and job details is something I need to work on.  The before pictures of this family room in a West Chester home show brick arches dividing the family room and the kitchen.  We removed the arches and created simple wood columns sitting on top of stone bases.  We also removed the french doors and opened up the flow to the sun room.The client wanted a more rustic look overall, and had found some narrow reclaimed wood planks that she wanted to use on the fireplace wall.  We redid the fireplace surround with the same stone as the half-wall, and lowered the height of the new mantel.  A lighter, random-width hickory wood floor was installed, as well as new recessed lights, and natural shades.Arguably, the best feature of this space is the new floor-to-ceiling custom wall unit which serves as a partial divider between the hallway and the family room, and provides media storage and display shelving, viewable from both sides.  The top of the "credenza" is made from the wood we had selected by hand (see previous article), and Jeremy crafted it so the live edge appears on both sides.  He also added some butterfly inserts in the top for interest.  We chose two stain colors both for variety, and to keep the unit looking lighter overall.  You can also see the grain of the wood better with a lighter stain.When doing the floor plan, we made sure there was plenty of room for the new, large tv, as well as a better seating arrangement for tv viewing.
