Rustic Master Bath remodel
We were recently asked to redesign a 1990s master bath in West Chester. Like many of the "newer" homes in this area, this one featured a large soaking tub that was rarely used, a small dark shower, and a cramped vanity area. In addition to designing a better layout, the homeowner requested that we incorporate elements into the design such as wooden beams, exposed brick walls, and floor tile that mimics wood planks. To create a larger, more open shower, we moved its location to the other side of the room, the tub was eliminated, and some of the windows were closed in so that the larger sink vanity could sit against the current shower/tub wall. To add height and drama to the space, we also eliminated the flat ceiling and brought the ceiling height to the roofline.
Rustic wooden barn doors separate the bath area from the closet area, and make a dramatic statement, welcoming you into a relaxing retreat. The bronze light fixtures envelop the space in a warm glow.
The shower tile mimics a rustic gray-toned wood and is accented by green glass tiles. Oil rubbed bronze shower hardware paired with the glass shower enclosure is a perfect mix of rustic and modern. Creamy white walls create a contrast to the darker elements and make them pop.

The exposed brick wall behind the vanities creates a great focal point with an interesting texture. The clients wanted to keep the wood theme going, so decided to forgo the typical stone countertops and use wood instead. The green paint color on the cabinets breaks up all the earth tones, but still comes from nature. Vintage-inspired lights, faucets and hardware invoke another time.
We were so happy to have been able to work on this project, as it was a dramatic change, and the look was much different from the current trends. We achieved the client's goals of having a warm, rustic look by combining natural, vintage, and modern elements.
