This calming and tranquil bathroom is a peaceful retreat from end to end. Natural elements of stone and wood marry seamlessly with quartz and porcelain to create this welcoming oasis.

When this homeowner from Newtown Square, PA asked us if we could help redesign the primary bathroom of this mid-80's, custom-designed house, she described it as "long and narrow" with a floor-to-ceiling stone accent wall. I was intrigued, and thought the project sounded both challenging and interesting.

As seen in the photos below, the original design had many elements that aren't in keeping with today’s standards. The small steam shower felt dark and claustrophobic. The room dimensions created a "hallway" effect, and the sinks were located outside of the primary bathroom space.

We removed the hot tub and replaced it with a contemporary soaking tub that gracefully becomes the focal point of the space. The original wood deck was removed, and the platform was re-sized. We chose a medium, wood-look tile for the floor to ground the space and keep with the "nature" theme. Preserving as much of the stone wall as possible, we designed a curb-less shower with a linear drain and a glass partition where the original shower and soaking tub had been. The shower and an elevated vanity help to visually expand the width of the room. Beautiful white quartz adds a light element and tops the vanity, shower bench, and half wall. The vanity top has a curved end that softens the transition onto the tub deck.

The original wood-stained door frames and the surround of the skylight were refurbished rather than replaced, thus respecting the integrity of the design theme/elements used throughout the rest of the home. There is a subtle wave in the globes of the pendant light fixtures, and the black finish on the light fixtures and hardware provide a nice color contrast.

A built-in makeup vanity with storage was added to the space where the sinks were originally located. A frameless lighted combination vanity mirror and medicine cabinet complete the spa look and keep clutter to a minimum.
