Sophisticated basement for casual entertaining
This visually-stunning multi-purpose space does it all! It includes a TV screening area, a separate conversation grouping, kitchenette/bar with seating, a gaming space, a home gym, full bath, workstation area, guest bedroom and loads of closet storage, while also leaving unfinished storage space for the larger items. It is the perfect place to host over-night guests, or large groups for parties, game nights and more.
As seen in the photos below, this West Chester home had a basement with large, open space and relatively high ceilings. A tunnel-like staircase chopped up the space and limited the sight lines.

We began by opening up the walls of the staircase and installing a contemporary railing system, along with hardwood stair treads and a modern geometric chandelier. Gray-toned luxury vinyl plank flooring and warm gray walls run throughout the space, while a stacked-stone wall serves as an accent and backdrop to the large tv screen. Pops of orange and cobalt blue punctuate furnishings and accessories.
A large sectional sofa plus 4 counter-height bar stools provide ample seating to enjoy the large screen projection TV (with an amazing sound-system), which can also been viewed from the gaming area. Here a large-sized pool/ping pong table is illuminated by a striking contemporary chandelier. For visual interest, we suspended a wood-stained panel from the ceiling and added lighting above it. Above the wainscoting, we installed mirrors which keeps the area feeling spacious. Another wall mirror is located in the gym where interlocking rubber tiles and a ceiling-height TV provide the perfect area for working out. The sauna sits just outside the gym next to the stairs.
The kitchenette/bar is both beautiful and functional. A wet bar, dishwasher, wine cooler and beverage refrigerator make trips to the upstairs kitchen obsolete. Glass-front cabinets and open shelving display liquor and glassware. A white marble countertop adds a light element and tops shaker style storage cabinets which have been stained brown to match the other woodwork. Modern, glass pendant lights illuminate the space and white leather barrel-style barstools with nailhead-trim complete the look.
A full-size bath, which is accessible from both the bedroom and the gaming area, is finished in shades of gray and bright white with a black finish on the cabinet and hardware for contrast. Porcelain tile in a calming wave pattern serves as an accent wall, while frameless glass shower doors expose the beautiful glass pebbles on the floor and wall. A frameless pivot mirror, modern single hole bathroom faucet, and a flat-front vanity with white quartz top add a sophisticated touch.
