Project Story
What began as a simple request to “make it pretty” quickly evolved into a transformative renovation centered around light, flow, and thoughtful design.
When we first met with our clients, the kitchen felt closed in—despite having an incredible view just beyond a wall of upper cabinets. By opening that wall and installing expansive windows framed in black, we immediately shifted the experience of the space. Relocating the sink to center beneath the new windows further enhanced both functionality and enjoyment, turning everyday tasks into moments connected to the outdoors. We extended the island to create a natural gathering place, concealed small appliances behind recessed cabinet doors for a clean aesthetic, and incorporated new large appliances along with a beverage refrigerator in the bar area to support effortless entertaining. A built-in banquette replaced the oversized dining table, forming a cozy nook that feels both intimate and inviting. Layered lighting—including recessed LEDs, under-cabinet strips, and statement pendants—adds warmth and flexibility throughout the day.
The overall design balances elegance with comfort, evoking a subtle European influence. A soft green on the back cabinetry reflects the surrounding landscape, while black accents and champagne-toned hardware introduce contrast and sophistication. Leathered quartzite countertops lend natural texture, and the island’s thickened edge and decorative legs reinforce its presence as a focal point. In the adjacent foyer, refinished wood floors, bold black stair treads and railings, custom wainscoting, and updated sconces create a stronger first impression. A carefully sourced antique French chest and curated artwork complete the vignette, offering a welcoming introduction to the home. The result is a cohesive renovation that feels refined yet livable—designed to be enjoyed daily, whether entertaining guests, gathering with family, or simply watching the seasons change through newly framed views.
