Sunlight, easy flow, and a kitchen built for the way this family actually lives and entertains.

The homeowners wanted to transform a dark, closed-off layout into one bright, connected gathering space at the back of the house. We removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room, took out an underused second staircase in the family room, and reworked the mudroom footprint to gain function where it was needed most. Pillars and a header now frame the family room opening, defining each zone while keeping sightlines wide open.

A two-level island anchors the kitchen with seating for five, a microwave drawer, and a prep sink, while quartz countertops and a quartz backsplash carry a clean, cohesive surface throughout. Custom cabinetry and a built-in bookcase deliver hidden storage and open display space, and a refinished wood floor pairs with a deep blue island, gold fixtures, and soft cream textiles for a balanced, livable palette. The result is a layered Chester County interior design and home renovation by McGrath Interiors that feels equally suited to weeknights and a full house.
